NCEA results online, NCEA results announced

Thousands of secondary students have been nervously logging on to their computers today to see if they passed or failed their NCEA assessments.

Year 12 Verdon College student Alex Dunn said he found out results were available today through social networking sites Facebook and Twitter.

"Everyone thought they were coming out a few days ago so everyone was really confused,'' he said.

"Everyone was on Facebook and Twitter talking about it and that's how I found out.''

The NZQA site crashed once when he was trying to view his results, he said, but then he managed to log in and saw he had passed all of his subjects and gained a merit endorsement.

More than 140,000 candidates sat NCEA and Scholarship exams at the end of last year and have been waiting to find out their results.

This is the first year results have been available online to students a week before their results arrive in their letterbox. Results will be mailed to students from Monday, and scholarship results will be delivered mid-February.

Marked exam papers will be delivered from January 20 onwards and students will have until February 18 to apply for reviews and reconsiderations. Students must be registered on NZQA's website, with National Student Number, to view their results: http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/login
