Johnny Depp “Hollywood Male Movie Star of the Year”

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Earlier this week, we reported that Johnny Depp was named the top Money-Making celebrity of 2010.

Get ready to add another “trophy” to your Hollywood mantelpiece, Mr. Depp.

This has been a banner year for an actor who has had several noteworthy frames. Depp launched 2010 by starring as The Mad Hatter in “Alice in Wonderland,” his seventh collaboration with director Tim Burton. The film was a massive hit, becoming the highest-grossing film in Burton’s oeuvre and second only to “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” for Depp.

Depp also romped around Italy as Angelina Jolie’s cohort in “The Tourist,” and like Ms. Jolie, collected a Golden Globe nomination for his work.

But Depp made headlines away from the big screen, which is part of the reason we celebrate his greatness. Take this story – one of our favorites from 2010 – which found Depp dressing up like his infamous pirate Capt. Jack Sparrow to help a London schoolgirl who had penned him a letter. How many major celebrities do you know who would take the time to make a wish like that come true?

Speaking of Captain Jack, we’re anxious to see where Depp takes that iconic character once he sets sail for a fourth time in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.” We’ll have to wait until May 20 for that one.

In the meantime, because of his contributions to Hollywood’s outstanding film archives – and because he genuinely cares for the people who come to see his films year after year – we are thrilled to recognize Johnny Depp as our “Hollywood Male Movie Star of the Year.”
