Former Florida governor Jeb Bush will join President Obama at an event to promote education reform at a Miami high school on Friday, the White House announced Tuesday.
Bush, the brother of Obama's predecessor, has long championed education reform, and Obama is pushing for an overhaul of the No Child Left Behind law by year's end. Bush and Obama have both promoted education policy ideas such as charter schools, and the former Florida governor has praised Obama's approach on education.
But the event, which will be held at Miami Central Senior High School, is still surprising. Bush has been a strong critic of much of Obama's policy agenda and strongly defended his brother George W. Bush the last two years as Obama and his team have blamed the ex-president for the recession.
It will be the second embrace by Obama of a member of the Bush family in a month; he presented former president George H.W. Bush with a Presidential Medal of Freedom a few weeks ago.
The White House has not yet released more details on Obama and Bush's
appearance.
