SSC to conduct common exam to recruit 53,000 constables

Feb 5 (PTI) The Staff Selection Commission(SSC) would conduct a common examination to recruit around53,200 constables in Central Police Organisations this year,Chairman of the Commission N K Raghupathy said here today.

"On the advice of Ministry of Home Affairs, the SSC forthe first time will be recruiting 53,200 constables for sixCentral para-military forces, this year," Raghupathy toldreporters adding 1257 vacancies are reserved for women.


The process for filling up vacancies in Indo TibetanBorder Police (3,328 posts) and Assam Rifles (880) is beingdone on a priority basis for which SSC will be completing therecruitment and announcing the results before July 31 whilethe process for vacancies in BSF, CISF, CRPF and SSB will becompleted before October 31, Raghupathy said.

Vacancies have been apportioned on the basis ofpopulation of respective states, Raghupathy said adding at thenational level there will be 20 per cent reservation forcandidates residing in border areas and another 20 per centreserved for those hailing from militancy and Naxal-affectedregions.

Any matriculate between the age group of 18-23 iseligible for these posts, with a three-year relaxation for OBCcandidates and a five-year relaxation for SC/ST candidates.

The last date for sending these applications is March 4, hesaid. .

Around 6,609 vacancies are to be filled up in Andhra Pradesh with 3,728 posts being reserved for candidates from 16naxal-affected districts while 2,281 vacancies are set asidefor general category, he said.

"As on January 1, the vacancy position stood at 53,200and by the time we conduct the exams, the revised number ofvacancies could rise to the tune of 80,000 and this could bethe single largest recruitment made to the Government sectornot only in India but in the world," Raghupathy added.

The SSC Chairman said that during the period of April2009-March 2010, the Commission received 18.1 lakhapplications for various examinations. It conducted exams for11.5 lakh candidates out of which 10,576 candidates gotselected.

With regard to 2010-11, the SSC would handle 55 lakhapplications, with 47 lakh candidates expected to take theexams by March 31, he said.
